Hi Andrew,

Currently the PC2Paper printer does not support mail merging. However we do have the option for accepting manual mail shots via FTP or email. This is provided the letters are properly aligned to fit our windowed DL envelopes. Many of our clients who use this option usually roll their mail merge off as a PDF or Word document for us to simply print out and put into envelopes.

Hi - I'm sending out a newsletter to a group of people.

I'd like to be able to mail merge to the PC2Paper printer driver.

I've seen your option for uploading an address book to the website, but that doesn't really suit my needs, because our spreadsheet of subscribers is in a different format, so I'd need to convert it and save it as tab delimited every time we had a change to our list.

So a Word mail merge would be more convenient. Can the printer driver pick up the address details from the letter itself? Or can I use a window envelope?

Hi there,

Our rich text editor makes use of a standard template. Unfortunately we do not provide a way of changing this template or selecting your own. I am guessing that you would like the ability to format the layout of your letter yourself instead of the system dropping it into a template?

At the moment if you upload a word document or PDF of your document it will appear as you created it. Alternatively you can also use our PC2Paper Printer which enables you to print your documents directly from your machine to your PC2Paper account from any application on your machine that can print.

We actually print the return address on the top left hand corner of the envelope and could possibly place your logo on there.

Hi Stephen,

We have found a solution that should help people who use proxy servers until we have a new release of the printer available for download.

To use a proxy server with the PC2Paper Printer go to Start > Run and type CMD and hit enter. In the black window that appears type the following and hit enter:

proxycfg -u

The above command will set all applications that access the Internet to use the proxy settings you have set up in your Internet Explorer web browser. In our next release we will provide a way to manually set the proxy server.

Hi Stephen,

I will try and recreate your setup here. I take it you setup the proxy server inside Internet Explorer? What port does your proxy server use?

We have tested the PC2Paper Printer on Windows XP Home Edition and with AVG on the machine. You could try a few tests to make sure it is not being blocked in the mean time.

* Disable AVG and try to use the PC2Paper Printer (be sure to re-enable it after)
* Disable Windows Firewall if you have it from the control panel (as before remember to turn it back on after)

I will let you know shortly how I get on with my own tests.

Just a note about UK postage rates.

*Second class UK postage will be going up by 2p new cost 43p for a 1 page letter
*First class UK postage wil be going up by 1p new cost 51p for a 1page letter

These changes will take place from 4 April 2007 and are to reflect changes in Royal Mails postage prices. Business customers who have pre-bought postage in bulk will not be affected by this change until they need to buy more postage.

I agree,

I have used PC2Paper for just under 2 years now and have found the letter sending service second to none. Although I have had a few problems with the letter box service. Say that the letters do arrive in my PC2Paper letter box way before they would have arrived in my letter box here in South Africa.

I think for me the convenience is having the ability to send letters, cards and receive letters in one place. One improvement I might add is that they add more cards to their card sections and get rid of the annoying line break issue in the online word processor.

Another user has had the same problem from India.

I am told the problem was caused by the security of the site locking the download of the PDF after a certain amount of time because the file was so large.

This timeout has been increased and the download of large PDF's should work now.

If anyone has experienced similar problems please let us know.

We are able to offer bespoke mail merge facilities to meet your needs we already provide Word document mail merge facilities for some of our customers. All we need is your distribution list and your document, in most cases it is best to use Word mail merge facilities and then send us the database file or document along with the letter document.

We are able to offer a choice of envelopes to you.

There is definitely a discount rate for high volumes of letters. I will email these to you.

The icon should appear when a member of the PC2Paper staff have some spare time (usually their lunch break) to be available to help users in real time through an Instant Messenger type interface.

We have only just installed the service so there may be a few bugs in there, but if you need some help or have a question and see the icon at the top of the page, don't be shy! Give it a click and ask away.

Mail is usually sent at the end of the day to catch the last post we ask that all mail be submitted to us before 5:30pm for delivery by Royal Mail for the next day. We are aware that Royal Mail is missing some next day deliveries because of their heavy workload at this time of year.

Occasionally when we receive high amounts of mail (as we are now) we bundle the mail and send it through out the day.

Mail (letters not cards) to South Africa should be sent before 4:30pm for next day delivery by SAPO. Mail to North America should be sent before 7pm for next day delivery (where available) by Canada Post.

I am glad to hear you like the service!

When using the rich text editor click the red text titled "Click here for help with this editor". The avatar should then appear and give you instructions on how to insert an image into your document. It is easily done by clicking on the icon of an image, doing this will give you a list of images you have uploaded already or enable you to upload images from your machine. To use the images all you need do is drag them into your document.

We think offering colour printing is a great idea and should be making it available soon so watch this space! :)

Thanks for your suggestions a number of users have asked to be able to reuse cards or to send the same card to a large group of people. Until we make this available on the site, please feel free to contact customerservice@pc2paper.co.uk with details of what card you would like to send and your address list.

We are working on adding new fonts to the selection, however this will only appear next year.

We have now fixed the problems with borders on the white cards and they should appear now when you edit them.

India was a whole new experience for me. I met up with a bunch of friends who had been before and took me on one hell of a tour.

Mumbai has got to be one of the busiest looking cities I have been to everything seems to be organized chaos but as you said the locals are very friendly.

I did manage to pickup a tummy bug while out there. I avoided the local water (like you said) but then found out that they put it into the local fruit juices you buy from the stands (pity I didn’t see that one coming!).

But all in all it was a great experience and I will definitely do it again!

You have all been waiting for it and we have now finally released the added functionality you asked for in our latest survey and from comments in this forum. The functionality includes the following:

* Upload Word documents
* Upload PDF documents
* Use a Rich Text editor online
* Upload and include your own images in your letters.
* Saving of address used in letter into your address book.

Its early days yet and while we have tested the above on Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer there may still be a few glitches and would appreciate your help in getting over any of these.
The new features should still work on the Mac however Safari on the Mac is proving to be a problem. As usual the site should work fine on Microsoft SPV (Smart Phones) or Windows based PDAs.

If you have a scanner you can scan a copy of your signature into your computer and save it as a GIF or JPG file (the software that comes with your scanner should enable you to do this).

Hi Simon,

We have been working on including a letterhead in the same way we have enabled users to include signatures in their letters.

I understand that using the new signature feature is not as intuitive as it should be and we will be working on making it more user friendly. Does anyone else have any feedback about the upload your signature feature?

The message interface was put together quickly one night by one of the technical guys who thought it would be a good idea for users to chat to each other and he is currently working on an improved interface.

I see I can now attach a signature to my letters - neat idea, although it took me a while to figure out how it works.
Placing a "signature tag" in the letter is a bit confusing and you may need to explain this to users as Lora (the avatar) doesn't appear to offer any help on the subject.

Another thing (last complaint :)) is it possible to make the message interface a bit more friendly? It doesn't seem to sort messages by thread very well.

Hi Simon,

Unfortunately when the letter is in the "Letters Waiting to be Sent" folder they have already been submitted to our printers and are usually printed within a few minutes.

I can confirm, after checking our records that two letters have been posted from your account today. To stop this from happening in future I have had one of our technical bods remove the delete option from the "Letters Waiting to be Sent" folder.

We are always happy when people enjoy our service and send us feedback, thank you :)

We can quite easily accomadate your prepaid envelope request into our service, at the moment I have added it to a list of improvements requested by users. In future you should be able to select an "include prepaid envelope" option while writing your letter.

Maybe somebody could answer this for me.
In the messages waiting to be sent folder, if I press delete mext to the letter, does it just delete it from your online Account and will the message still get sent out?

Having talked to Nochex they cannot process credit card transactions (even if you do have a Nochex account) if they are from certain areas such as India, Nigeria and Indonesia

However they can accept them for the following areas.

Europe
Gibraltar
Ireland
Belgium
Canada
Australia
Sweden
Switzerland
Italy

New Zealand

I have been before but that was ages ago.

Note of warning if you decide to rent a car you take your life in your own hands they drive like maniacs out there. I found it better to use taxi's and even then I had trouble keeping my lunch down.

There are lots of interesting things to see out there and the people can be very friendly. While I was out there I stuck to a vegetarian diet because of a note of warning from my guide about how they treated the meat although that could have changed by now.

I also made the mistake of drinking the local water which made me rather ill. With some people its okay but with us Britt's it can be lethal!
